MERGE4 and the LogJam!: The Bluff Above Pleasure Point

Before sunrise, the bluff above Pleasure Point begins to fill quietly.

Coffee cups in cold hands. Longboards tucked beneath arms. Hooded figures standing along the rail watching the ocean shift from dark grey into blue as the first clean lines begin wrapping through the Point.

Then Don Bostick’s voice rolls across the bluff and another LogJam! Surf Contest is underway.

Every year, the LogJam! gathers generations of surfers along the Point... women and men carrying weathered logs down the stairs, longtime locals reconnecting along the cliffside, younger surfers studying the water and the people who have spent decades understanding it.

As the morning settles in, a surfer stalls high at First Peak before stepping forward. Someone fades deep, trims through the middle section, and disappears behind the shoulder. Sets roll through slowly enough that people actually watch the whole wave from beginning to end.

For MERGE4, this event has always meant something personal. Our founder grew up at the Point. These waves, cliffs, parking lots, and people helped shape the spirit behind the brand long before MERGE4 existed. The creativity, individuality, and sense of community surrounding Pleasure Point still runs through everything we do.

Even though we’re always at Stagecoach Festival during LogJam! weekend, supporting this event remains important to us year after year because we genuinely love this community.

There’s history here.
There’s connection here.
There’s a feeling on the bluff that still feels distinctly Santa Cruz.

And through all of it is Don Bostick on the microphone, a familiar voice, storyteller, and part of the soul of the entire weekend.

Huge respect to the entire crew behind the LogJam! Surf Contest for continuing to preserve one of California’s most meaningful surf traditions.

MERGE4 is proud to support it every year.

See you on the bluff next spring.
